Reading with a child is such a beautiful way to express love. The time spent, the cuddles: they show your child there is nothing more important in the world to you right now than they are.
Even better is when that book is about the love between a parent and child.
Some of my favorites in this category include, All of Baby Nose to Toes, Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes, and Guess How Much I Love You.
But I’ve found a new book to add to that pile of favorites.
The Wonderful Things You Will Be by Emily Winfield Martin is a lovely book imagining what a child will be and do.
Here’s what I love about this book:
- Instead of talking about things the child might be (astronaut, teacher, etc.) it describes traits the child will grow into (kind, clever, bold).
- The pictures show children doing the things the parent imagines for them. Your child is shown they don’t have to wait until they grown up to be those things.
- The illustrations have a charming vintage feel.
The last line of this sweet picture book says it all:
If you are looking for a book to give your baby to preschooler for a birthday or holiday, The Wonderful Things You Will Be would make a great choice. It would also be a lovely baby shower gift.
What’s your favorite book that expresses a parent’s love for their child?
