I learned something new this year. February 14 is International Book Giving Day! How perfect! What better way to show love to your child than by giving them a book (and reading it with them!). In addition, the founders of International Book Giving Day encourage you to donate a book to a library, shelter or hospital. They have some free downloadable book plates and book marks to stick in your child’s Valentine’s Day gift.
I’ve also created some free printable book name plates that can be printed on standard size labels. My kids love getting to mark a book as their very own!
Here are a few suggestions of books that would make great Valentine’s Day gifts for your kids this year to show them how much you love them!
Babies to Toddlers:
Snuggle Puppy by Sandra Boynton
All of Baby, Nose to Toes by Victoria Adler
Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes by Mem Fox
Preschoolers to Early Elementary Schoolers:
Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney
Sugar Cookies: Sweet Little Lessons on Love by Amy Krouse Rosenthal
Wherever You Are: My Love Will Find You by Nancy Tillman
For older kids, I think the best books to say I love you are books that you loved at their age. Or, pick a book and commit to reading it together! Some of our favorite read alouds this past year have been The Wingfeather Saga, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and The Green Ember.
Happy Valentine’s, I mean, International Book Giving Day!
