Let’s face it, moms. We complain that our toddler wants to hear the same book over and over and over. But that’s usually because it’s a book we can’t stand. But we do the same thing! We have a few books we prefer to read. At least, I know I do! I have a few favorite board books that I don’t mind reading over and over again.
Here are the books I choose to read when it’s Mama’s turn to pick!
Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes by Mem Fox is just a delightfully sweet book to read with little ones. I also love the illustrations which feature babies from around the world.
All of Baby Nose to Toes by Victoria Adler is one of my favorites. I can’t help reading the rhyming text in a sing-song. And every time the book asks, “Who loves baby’s (eyes/nose/toes/etc.),” it’s fun to answer, “Me, I do!”
Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown–This is just an all-time favorite of mine that I somehow never tire of. I’m sure you know and love this classic too. It’s nice to have a board book version so your babies won’t bend the pages. (If your child can’t get enough of it, the Audible version is just $.87)
The Bear Snores On by Karma Wilson is one that I can practically read with my eyes shut! My kids have all enjoyed this rhyming and surprising book.
Sandra Boynton is a board book master, and there are a few of hers that I just don’t get tired of for whatever reason. They are sweet, fun, humorous, and engaging: Are You a Cow?, Moo, Baa, La, La, La, But Not the Hippopotamus, and Hippos Go Berserk!
What are your favorite board books to read over and over again? (I could use some new ones!)
Great list! We love Sandra Boynton too! Her book Snuggle Puppy was a big hit in our house too.
Oh yes! Do you sing Snuggle Puppy? (I do!)
Oh definitely!
LOVE Sandra Boynton! I just reviewed a board book by Sally Lloyd Jones — Song of the Stars. It’s an amazing little Christmas book with a boat load of theology to boot.
Oh my goodness! We just checked out Song of the Stars from the library and read it this morning! Wonderful! I also love the illustrator, Alison Jay. Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
Books by Caroline Jayne Church were a favorite, like Goodnight, I Love you.
Our fave Boyton book was the Belly Button book because it frequently lead to tickles 🙂
I’ll have to look into Caroline Jayne Church! Thanks! 🙂
Aw, I always enjoy Goodnight Moon. And Sandra Boynton’s illustrations are hilarious! Great list!
Thanks, Hannah! Glad you stopped by!
I have a grandson and these books look perfect for him. I love Boyton too. Thanks for sharing on Literacy Musing Mondays.
We love Hippos Go Berserk around here too! Our two-year old has been cracking us up with it this week. He has decided that “berserk” is not a word and so the book must actually say “All the hippos go to church.” He is insistent that this is the correct way to read it, and that the next page says, “All through the hippo night, hippos PRAY with great delight.” Cracks me up! And yes, I just typed all that without looking even though I haven’t read the book all day! 🙂
Other favorites around here are Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb; Little Blue Truck; and Fireman Small to the Rescue. Thanks so much for linking this up at Booknificent Thursday this week!
Tina
Oh my goodness! Your two-year-old sounds a lot like mine! Mine is certain she is always right! But I love how his new text really fits! Haha! Maybe you have a future writer on your hands 🙂
