Hi, my name is Carolyn, and I’m a struggling reader. Let me clarify, I don’t have a reading problem. I love to read. My dream job would be getting paid to read all day. My struggle comes from actually taking the time to sit down and do it. Especially with my kids.
When my oldest daughter was four, we read through the entire Little House on the Prairie series. Her little brother was two and took glorious 3-4 hour naps each afternoon. I didn’t feel busy or rushed. The house work could wait. We would snuggle up on the couch and read at least an hour, sometimes two. Every day.
Fast-forward to today. I’m now mom to four kids. I homeschool the two oldest, help out with my husband’s small business, teach a class at our homeschool co-op, and volunteer at AWANA. Oh, and deal with overflowing laundry hampers, endless piles of dishes, and the ever-emptying pantry and fridge. Who has time to sit down and read?
I should. I need to. I want to spend that time, cuddling on the couch with my kids all vying for the best spot. I love to do it. The house work can wait.
Will you join me in committing to read more to your kids this year? And also to read more for yourself?
I’m a struggling reader. But I’m in recovery. Will you join me?
Here are my goals:
1) Spend more time reading to my kids. Lets say at least 2 hours a week (so I’ll know if I met it).
2) Provide you, my reader, with resources (book reviews, discussion guides, best books lists, book bargains, and articles) to help you find the right books for your child or children. I plan to post 2-4 times per month.
Please let me know if you will join me in committing to read more to your children. And let me know what types of book reviews are most helpful to you.
Make sure you sign up below for updates so that you can join me on this journey and receive my latest book reviews!
What a brilliant idea! I look forward to following your blog! Blessings!
