Picture books about books may be a little meta, but they’re also a whole lot of fun. Hopefully these books will inspire your kids to pull a few more books off the self for reading time.
Books About Books
The Good Little Book by Kyo Maclear and illustrated by Marion Arbona is the brilliant story of a boy becoming a reader when he finds the Good Little Book. Until it gets lost. The boy must find new stories as the Good Little Book has new adventures of its own.
Again! by Emily Gravett–Any parent whose child has asked them to read the same book over and over will identify with this book. Baby dragon wants mama to read his book again and again. Each time it gets shorter as mama wants him to get in bed already. When little dragon gets mad… let’s just say this book may never be the same.
The Boy and The Book by David Michael Slater Illustrated by Bob Kolar–This fun (nearly) wordless book shows how a book might feel being mistreated… and how much it will love finally being read.
How This Book Was Made by Mac Barnett illustrated by Adam Rex--This book is a hilarious, partially true account of how a book is made. The truth is that it takes an author, editor, illustrator, printer, and finally a reader. But it’s all the wacky details thrown in along the way that make this book so fun.
How to Bake a Book by Ella Burfoot–This delightful, rhyming book lists all the ingredients necessary for a good story. The imaginative illustrations will pull the reader right in.
I love your choices, but there is another I wish was here. “Wild About Books” by Judy Sierra. It is a favorite in our house.
That sounds fun! Thanks for sharing 🙂
